*As Gov Makinde inaugurates projects
Rising from their recent 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at Lalekan Are Hall, the old boys of the Government College Ibadan (GCI) unanimously re-elected the legal luminary and businessman, Dr. Olawale Babalakin (SAN) for another tenure as National President of the association.
This was followed with inauguration of various world class projects donated by members of the association, to reposition the school.
While inaugurating the projects, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde stated that to maintain quality education in modern times requires a lot, reiterating that government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility.
Makinde, who emphasised the need to reposition the sector to achieve sustainable development, also encouraged relevant stakeholders to partner government to reposition the education sector for the benefit of up-coming generations.
On his part, Babalakin, who commended the governor for reposing great confidence in the association by handing over the running of the school to the old boys, said all hands must be on desk to reposition the school.
He also urged them to scale up significantly and harness all their intellectual and financial resources to reposition the school.
His words: “We remain grateful to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde and his government for reposing such great confidence in GCIOBA and as we pledged during the inaugural ceremony, we will deliver on all assurances made to His Excellency. The ball is now in our court. We must harness all our intellectual and financial resources to reposition the college. All hands should be on deck.”
At the event, national merit awards were conferred on worthy members of the association who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields of endeavour. They include Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite; Prof. Olugbenga Ogunmoyela and Mr. Babajide Olatunde Agbeja, among others.
